New Crew Transport Vehicles Enhance Dresden's Fire and Emergency Services

Dresden's fire department and emergency services are set to receive a boost with the introduction of new crew transport vehicles (CTVs), as announced earlier this month. The new CTVs, which are Mercedes Benz Vito Tourer Extralong vans with nine seats, are expected to start operation from October.

Deputy Mayor Jan Pratzka recently handed over eight of these new CTVs to the neighbourhood fire departments in Bühlau, Mobschatz, Pappritz, Pillnitz, Weißig, Weixdorf, Niedersedlitz, and Cossebaude. These vehicles are especially crucial for transporting a large number of people, aside from regular deployment scenarios.

The new CTVs feature a box system with fire equipment in the rear, along with a special signaling system and numerous assistance systems for safe travel to the incident site. The cost per vehicle for the new CTVs is approximately 75,000 euros, with the Free State providing around 27,000 euros in funding per vehicle.

The need for these new vehicles was highlighted by the recent bomb discovery on September 14, which underscored the urgent need for functional crew transport vehicles. With some of the old emergency vehicles being up to 16 years old and significantly outdated, the new CTVs are a much-needed addition to the fleet.

In 2022, there were almost 180,000 deployments by the fire department and emergency rescue services, marking a record level of activity. The Integrated Regional Control Center in Dresden receives about 2,200 calls per day, further emphasising the importance of having modern and reliable emergency vehicles.

The fire department is seeking support to ensure smooth operation of these new CTVs, and with their arrival, Dresden's fire and emergency services are well-positioned to continue providing vital services to the community.

The introduction of new crew transport vehicles (CTVs) in Dresden's fire and emergency services is significant for the automotive industry, as these Mercedes Benz Vito Tourer vans are expected to enhance transportation within public-transit systems. The cost-efficient CTVs, with each vehicle costing approximately 75,000 euros, are supported by the Free State's funding, reflecting the importance of finance in ensuring the smooth operation of emergency services. As the fire department strives to maintain a modern and reliable fleet, these new CTVs will likely contribute to the industry's standards, while improving the overall efficiency of the transportation sector in Dresden.
