Since the introduction of the EnSikuMaV (Energieeinsparverordnung für kommunale Gebäude) ordinance, Düsseldorf has stepped up its energy-saving game. This means the city administration has implemented additional measures to reduce energy consumption.
Here's what's new:
- Temperature Adjustments: Indoor temperatures in public buildings, such as administrative offices and leisure facilities, are being lowered to around 19°C. This includes temperature reductions for residential houses and youth centers.
- Optimized User Behavior: City administration employees are encouraged to adopt energy-efficient habits, such as turning off lights, closing windows, and adhering to reduced heating and ventilation settings.
- Ice Rinks and Sports Facilities: The water temperature for ice rinks at Brehmstraße and temperatures in sports halls and changing rooms are being reduced.
- Facility Closures: Starting from November 1st, leisure facilities at Ulenbergstraße, Niederheid, and Heerdt, as well as the Wildpark exhibition, will be temporarily closed. The Ballhaus in Nordpark will remain vacant.
- Outdoor Lighting: In accordance with the EnSikuMaV, the lighting of outdoor buildings and monuments is prohibited, except for maintaining traffic safety. This means the immediate shutdown of lighting at around 150 locations, with a differentiated approach in the old town due to safety concerns. Additonally, illuminated advertising displays are prohibited from operating between 10 PM and 4 PM.
- Gas Lamps: Around 8,000 gas lamps in the city area will be switched off from 1 AM to 5 AM, following the Rheinbahn's operating pause, starting October 15th. The police are currently reviewing if compensatory lighting is necessary in certain areas.
By implementing these measures, Düsseldorf aims to conserve energy, reduce costs, and support national climate goals. The city continuously monitors the effectiveness of these actions and adjusts them as needed based on seasonal and operational requirements.
