Nio's ET9 Horizon Edition Takes on Ultra-Luxury Segment
Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) has unveiled the ET9 Horizon Edition, a luxurious variant of its executive flagship sedan, the ET9. The new model was launched at Nio Day 2024 last December and deliveries began in late March. The ET9 Horizon Edition joins other Chinese models like the Maextro S800 and BYD's Yangwang U7 in the ultra-luxury car segment.
The ET9 Horizon Edition stands out with a striking two-tone blue and silver paint scheme, exclusive wheel design, and unique badging. Inside, it boasts upgraded premium materials, reflecting its high-end status. The ET9, priced at RMB 818,000 ($114,960), is one of the most expensive models from a Chinese automaker, positioning it to challenge the Mercedes-Maybach. Despite its price, the ET9 has seen strong demand, with 92 units delivered in August alone, bringing cumulative deliveries to 2,065 units.
In the ultra-luxury car segment in China, the ET9 primarily competes with high-end domestic electric vehicle manufacturers. It outshines other Chinese competitors in driving behavior and comfort, though it doesn't have direct European luxury brand rivals in this segment.
The Nio ET9 Horizon Edition, with its premium features and high price point, is making waves in the ultra-luxury car market. Its strong sales numbers indicate that it's appealing to Chinese consumers seeking high-end, domestically produced electric vehicles.
