Nissan Magnite Now E20 Compliant: What You Need to Know

Nissan has made a significant move in the Indian and Indonesian markets by announcing an expansion of the Nissan Magnite sales program to E20 petrol fuel. This follows the confirmation that the 1.0-litre three-cylinder, naturally aspirated HR10 petrol engine in the Magnite has been E20 compliant since February 2025, and the 1.0-litre three-cylinder, turbocharged BR10 petrol engine since August 2024.

The Nissan Magnite, available with a 999 cc engine, starts at an affordable ₹ 6.14 Lakhs. This compact SUV now joins a growing list of vehicles that can run on E20 fuel, a blend of 20 per cent ethanol and 80 per cent petrol.

However, the use of E20 fuel may lead to a decrease in fuel efficiency, with the exact impact varying among vehicles. The government claims the drop in efficiency due to E20 fuel is only 1-2 per cent. On the other hand, some vehicle owners have reported a drop in fuel consumption by up to 15-20 per cent. It's important to note that the potential impact on fuel efficiency and engine wear and tear may vary among different car models.

Nissan has confirmed that both new and existing models of the Magnite can run on E20 fuel without significant issues. However, prolonged use of E20 fuel may cause increased wear and tear on engine parts, particularly cycle parts, due to the corrosive nature of ethanol. To address these potential issues, Nissan will inspect and address any problems arising from the transition to E20 fuel during routine service appointments.

The Nissan Magnite now competes with the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor (starting at ₹ 7.76 Lakhs), Maruti Suzuki Fronx (starting at ₹ 7.58 Lakhs), Renault Triber (starting at ₹ 6.30 Lakhs), and Renault Kiger (also starting at ₹ 6.30 Lakhs), all of which are available with E20 fuel compatibility.

In addition to this, Nissan offers a 10-year warranty programme on the Magnite, providing peace of mind for potential buyers. Contrary to some reports, the use of E20 fuel does not void the warranty on the Nissan Magnite or other Nissan cars sold after October 2024.

As the use of E20 fuel becomes more widespread, it's essential for car owners to understand the potential impacts on their vehicles. Nissan's move to make the Magnite E20 compliant is a step towards a more sustainable future, while ensuring that the vehicle remains reliable and efficient.

Stay tuned for updates on the upcoming Tata Punch Facelift, expected to be priced between ₹ 6 - 11 Lakhs and also compatible with E20 fuel.
