Nth Cycle Opens Ohio Plant to Revolutionize U.S. Nickel, Cobalt Production for EVs
Nth Cycle, a pioneering U.S.-based company, has inaugurated its first domestic nickel and cobalt production facility in Fairfield, Ohio. The 21,000-square-foot plant, backed by the U.S. Department of Energy, is set to revolutionize the critical metals industry and bolster the electric vehicle (EV) sector.
The facility, equipped with Nth Cycle's proprietary electro-extraction technology, recovers critical metals from diverse waste sources. This innovative approach addresses the risk of relying on inconsistent supply and quality from unstable countries, offering a clean and efficient alternative.
The plant produces Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate (MHP), containing over 90% nickel and cobalt, surpassing the current industry standard of 30-40% nickel and 1-6% cobalt. Nth Cycle's technology transforms metal feedstock into high-purity critical metals, empowering partners to bridge the gap between demand and supply of essential metals.
The facility's OYSTER system is modular, allowing co-location at customer sites to manage waste and return advanced material directly to manufacturing lines. This not only reduces transportation emissions but also aligns with the Inflation Reduction Act's requirements, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by more than 90% compared to traditional mining processes.
The opening of Nth Cycle's Fairfield facility marks a significant milestone in the U.S.'s journey towards a clean, electrified economy. The plant creates new jobs, ensures a stable domestic supply of critical metals, and contributes to the global fight against climate change. With the support of the U.S. Department of Energy and local authorities, Nth Cycle is poised to establish the U.S. as a global leader in the production of nickel and cobalt for the EV industry.
