The UK's transportation sector is set to celebrate a significant milestone in rail transport planning at the CiTTi Awards on 25 November 2025, to be held at the prestigious De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London.

The event, which is an unmissable occasion for the industry, will recognise and celebrate achievements in rail transport planning, particularly in the context of the £800m rail investment project in Wales.

The Welsh Government has been instrumental in this project, with the remaining new trains for the Wales and Border Line now being contracted as part of this ambitious initiative. These new trains, now making up more than half of the new trains from the project, are transforming passenger experiences, offering faster, more frequent services, increased capacity, and improved seating.

The new trains are also equipped with modern amenities such as up-to-the-minute passenger travel information screens, power sockets, and Wi-Fi. For added comfort, they come with modern air conditioning.

Ken Skates, the Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales, has expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating that the new trains are indeed transforming passenger experiences. He further added that the future for rail in Wales is looking bright.

The rail investment project has reached a significant milestone in its mission to transform Wales' railways, with two thirds of passenger journeys in Wales now being made on new and improved trains. This progress is a testament to the success of the project and the positive impact it is having on the transportation sector in Wales.

The CiTTi Awards, which will celebrate these achievements, promises to be an exciting and inspiring event for all those involved in the rail industry. It is a perfect opportunity to recognise the hard work and innovation that has gone into making rail travel in Wales a more enjoyable and efficient experience.

Whether you're a passenger, a rail enthusiast, or a professional in the transportation sector, the CiTTi Awards on 25 November 2025 at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London is an event not to be missed. Let's celebrate the future of rail travel in Wales!
