Overweight logistics truck carrying wood halted by authorities due to excess load during EU-POL transit
In the small town of Nettersheim-Zingsheim, the Circles Police Department in Euskirchen conducted a series of truck checks, focusing on long wood transports. Two trucks belonging to a Luxembourgish company were halted during these checks, and it was discovered that both vehicles were overloaded.
The first truck, driven by a 31-year-old Belgian, was found to be carrying a weight of over 61 tons, double the permitted load. The driver was required to pay a security deposit of around 800 euros. The corresponding exception permit for long wood transports was withdrawn for the first truck.
Just a few meters from its destination, the second truck, driven by an unidentified driver, was also stopped. The second truck, like the first, was overloaded, with a total weight of over 60 tons. The driver had to unload the entire cargo on the spot and pay a security deposit of 800 euros. The profit from the overloading will be confiscated in a further procedure, amounting to nearly 3,000 euros.
Overloading a transport vehicle can excessively strain the material of the vehicle and exceed the technically permissible total mass specified by the manufacturer. Roads and roundabouts can suffer additional damage from overloaded trucks, which can be expensively repaired and paid for by the public.
