Partnership between LINX and ISOC Ghana Strengthens Network Robustness Nationwide in Ghana

The London Internet Exchange (LINX) and the Internet Society Ghana Chapter have joined forces in a significant partnership aimed at strengthening digital infrastructure and fostering a robust internet ecosystem in West Africa, particularly in Ghana. This collaboration coincides with the launch of LINX Accra, a new Internet Exchange Point (IXP) designed as an interconnection hub to improve internet performance, connectivity, and resilience across the region.

## Partnership Objectives and Roles

The objective of this partnership is to enhance the internet landscape in Ghana and West Africa by leveraging both organizations’ expertise and resources. LINX, a globally recognized IXP operator, brings advanced peering and interconnection solutions to the table, while ISOC Ghana contributes its local expertise in advocacy, education, and community engagement for open and secure internet access.

A strategic milestone in this partnership is the launch of LINX Accra, located near multiple submarine cable landing stations, making Ghana a key connectivity hub for international traffic.

## Joint Initiatives

The partnership has outlined several joint initiatives to achieve its goals. These include community engagement events, technical training programs, knowledge-sharing activities, and networking forums such as the Ghana Network Operators Group (GhNOG). The next GhNOG event is scheduled for 4 July 2025.

## Broader Impact

The collaboration aims to create a more resilient and integrated internet fabric, reducing latency and costs for local and international networks. It also empowers local stakeholders, equipping Ghanaian and regional actors with the skills and platforms needed to advance the local digital economy. The partnership provides access to global Internet Society resources and cutting-edge training, enhancing the region’s digital readiness.

## Additional Strategic Partnership

LINX has also expanded its collaboration with Digital Realty, a major data center provider, to support the LINX Accra IXP. Digital Realty’s forthcoming facility, ACR2, will serve as a key access point, further strengthening the region’s connectivity by leveraging Ghana’s proximity to six submarine cable landing stations.

In summary, the LINX and ISOC Ghana partnership, combined with LINX Accra and collaboration with Digital Realty, marks a significant step forward for internet infrastructure in West Africa, focusing on community engagement, technical capacity, and robust, scalable interconnection solutions.

Nurani Nimpuno, Head of Global Engagement for LINX, expressed excitement about working alongside the Internet Society Ghana Chapter to support capacity building in Ghana. Maud Adjeley Ashont Elliot, President of the ISOC Ghana Chapter, commented on the partnership with LINX, expressing excitement and anticipation for a long-term collaboration for the good of the local internet.

The GhNOG Workshop provides a unique platform to attract new members, foster collaboration, and introduce cutting-edge courses and initiatives from the global Internet Society. LINX Accra is expected to provide a vital platform for local and international networks to interconnect, serving not only ISOC members but also the wider Internet ecosystem in Ghana.

The Internet Society Ghana Chapter is dedicated to ensuring the open development, evolution, and use of the internet for the benefit of people in Ghana and globally. The chapter has championed several initiatives in capacity building for the technical community and education. Through GhNOG, ISOC Ghana continues to advance its mission of promoting an open, resilient, and secure Internet for all.
