Police Seize Unsafe Truck Load: 22-Ton Steel Blocks Improperly Secured
Police in Blankenheim intercepted an Austrian truck on Thursday morning, carrying an unsafe load on the B51 federal highway. The vehicle was transporting two steel blocks, each weighing eleven tons, secured by far fewer lashings than required.
The blocks were resting on edge beams and secured by only two lashings, a significant shortfall from the necessary 38. Moreover, there were no additional securing measures against the direction of travel, making the load dangerously unstable.
The driver was prohibited from continuing and a specialized company had to secure the load properly. The driver was fined for inadequate securing and violating regulations, and had to pay a security deposit.
The company responsible for the transport will lose the profit made from the journey, which amounts to a four-digit figure in euros.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of proper loading and securing procedures for heavy and oversized cargo. Police continue to investigate the company involved in the transport.
