**Kuwait Municipality Accelerates Key Development Projects**

Kuwait Municipality is pushing forward with several significant development projects, focusing on housing, infrastructure, urban planning, and regulatory reforms. These initiatives, which span housing, economic and investment initiatives, infrastructure, and updated municipal regulations, are designed to enhance the quality of life for citizens and support Kuwait's development goals.

One of the key housing development projects underway is an intensified effort to speed up housing welfare projects in line with the directives of Kuwait’s political leadership. The aim is to provide suitable housing for citizens, improve infrastructure, and ensure high quality standards, with cooperation among various government agencies to remove obstacles and fast-track implementation according to set timelines.

Infrastructure and urban planning initiatives have also received attention, with the Municipal Council recently approving proposals that support infrastructure development and urban planning, reflecting a commitment to regulatory reform.

Kuwait is also advancing the second phase of a desalination project, aiming to boost strategic freshwater reserves by 60 million imperial gallons per day through reverse osmosis technology. This project supports the municipality’s infrastructure expansion.

In addition to these initiatives, broader economic development and investment plans are being implemented, coupled with updates to municipal regulations.

The postponement of the Municipal Council members' annual leave was a strategic move to expedite the approval process of these critical development projects. By delaying their leave, the council members have prioritized discussions, approvals, and subsequent implementation of these initiatives, underscoring their commitment to meeting project deadlines and the urgency of advancing Kuwait’s development agenda.

Notably, a donation has been granted by Kuwait International Bank to fund the beautification and restoration of Abdul Razzaq Gate Tunnel. This donation will cover Tender No. 2023/2024/3 and the supervision of implementation works under Tender No. 2024/2025/7. The donation will be referred to the Municipal Council for formal approval, in accordance with Article 21, Clause 12 of Law No. 33 of 2016.

Other notable developments include a request by the Ministry of Social Affairs to construct a walkway connecting the Qadisiya Cooperative Society's central market to its vegetable branch. This request is currently under review, pending coordination with relevant stakeholders, including the Traffic Department.

The Environment Public Authority has also proposed adding a coffee shop to the Salmiya Environment Guards' Building (Block 1). These projects will be submitted to the Municipal Council for discussion within the next two months.

The commitment of the council members reflects a shared dedication to pushing forward Kuwait's development agenda. Minister Al-Mishari commended the cooperation of council members in deferring their break to prioritize national development. The extraordinary sessions can be held at the request of the Minister, Council Chairman, or five members, provided the topics are limited to the agenda issued with the invitation.

Under Article 15 of Law No. 33 of 2016, the Municipal Council is entitled to a 10-month annual session, with at least one meeting every two weeks. The council members agreed to defer their break in order to prioritize national development and respond swiftly to government agency needs.

These developments mark a significant step forward in Kuwait's ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure, housing, and economic growth, while ensuring a high quality of life for its citizens.

  1. The economic development and investment plans being implemented by the municipality include financing for the beautification and restoration of Abdul Razzaq Gate Tunnel by Kuwait International Bank, which is a key player in the finance industry.
  2. Alongside the focus on housing and infrastructure, Kuwait is also supporting business growth by considering proposals to add a coffee shop to the Salmiya Environment Guards' Building (Block 1), demonstrating an inclusive approach to urban planning and economic stimulation.
