Predicted diesel prices set to decrease by over Rs11 starting from August 16

The prices of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) in Pakistan are set to change from August 16, 2025.

Currently, petrol, also known as Mogas, is priced at Rs264.61 per litre, following a reduction of Rs7.54 per litre effective August 1. However, it is expected to rise slightly by about Rs1.32 per litre, reaching approximately Rs265.93 per litre for the next fortnight. In contrast, the price of HSD has increased by Rs1.48 per litre on August 1 to Rs285.83, but is projected to decrease sharply by around Rs11.75 per litre, falling to about Rs274.08 per litre for the next fortnight.

These adjustments reflect fluctuations in global crude oil prices, which have recently dropped to approximately $62.7 per barrel—the lowest in two months—due to forecasts of increased global oil supply, weaker demand growth, and higher production mainly from OPEC+ countries and the US.

Other petroleum products are also affected. Kerosene oil price is expected to decline by about Rs6.25 per litre, and light diesel oil by around Rs7.11 per litre from August 16.

The government regularly revises local fuel prices every two weeks based on international market trends, recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), and currency fluctuations to pass on import cost changes to consumers.

Here is a summary of the expected changes:

| Product | Price as of Early August | Expected Change on Aug 16 | Expected New Price (Approx.) | |-------------------|---------------------------|---------------------------|-------------------------------| | Petrol | Rs264.61 | +Rs1.32 | Rs265.93 | | High-speed Diesel | Rs285.83 | -Rs11.75 | Rs274.08 | | Kerosene Oil | (Not specified) | -Rs6.25 | (Reduced accordingly) | | Light Diesel Oil | (Not specified) | -Rs7.11 | (Reduced accordingly) |

The new prices for HSD, petrol, and LDO will come into effect from August 16 for the next fortnight. It is important to note that no information about the price changes for other petroleum products like jet fuel or cooking gas is provided in this announcement.

Additionally, the government charges a Carbon Levy of Rs8.70 on one litre of petrol and Rs4.06 on diesel, as well as a Petroleum Levy of Rs80.52 on one litre of petrol and Rs79.51 on HSD. The IFEM (inland freight Equalization margin) is Rs8.70 on one litre of petrol and Rs4.06 on diesel.

The US oil production is projected to peak this year and then decline next year, while the price of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude hits a two-month low of $62.7 per barrel. However, no information about the price changes for petroleum products after the fortnight following August 16 is provided.
