Prolonged roadblock setup on A3 highway at Erlangen: commencement of a new construction phase
The construction work on the A3 and St 2244 near Erlangen is progressing, with several changes and updates for traffic participants to take note of.
West of the Interchange, the Niederndorfer Straße is being rebuilt.
From approximately 28.07.2025, traffic participants with the destination Herzogenaurach are requested to follow the detour U36 on the St 2244 in the direction of Erlangen to the on/off-ramp Erlanger Straße or Frauenauracher Straße and then back onto the St 2244 in the direction of Herzogenaurach.
During construction on the Niederndorfer Straße, only one lane in each direction will be available in the construction site area. The reconstruction of the on-ramp from the Niederndorfer Straße to the A3 in the direction of Nuremberg is ongoing.
Changes to Detour Routes
The press release indicates that there are changes to the detour routes for traffic participants with destinations in Herzogenaurach and Würzburg. From approximately 28.07.2025, the left-turn lane on the St 2244 from Herzogenaurach to the on-ramp to the BAB A3 in the direction of Würzburg will also have to be closed.
Traffic participants who want to drive onto the A3 from the Niederndorfer Straße in the direction of Nuremberg will be directed via a yellow-signed map.
Closures on the A3 and St 2244
The left-turn lane of the ER6 (Pappenheimer Straße) from Kriegenbrunn onto the St 2244 in the direction of Herzogenaurach will have to be closed. The on-ramp to the A3 from Erlangen in the direction of Nuremberg will be closed until approximately 07.11.2025.
The on-ramp to the A3 from Herzogenaurach in the direction of Nuremberg remains unrestricted, while the on-ramp to the A3 from Herzogenaurach in the direction of Würzburg will have to be closed until the same date.
The Erlangen/Frauenaurach Interchange and the Six-Lane Expansion of the BAB A3
The Erlangen/Frauenaurach interchange is being rebuilt as part of the six-lane expansion of the BAB A3. The parties responsible for this expansion are the consortium A3 Nordbayern GmbH & Co. KG, a joint venture of JOHANN BUNTE Bauunternehmung GmbH & Co. KG and Eiffage S.A., commissioned by the Autobahndirektion Nordbayern on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI).
The construction work on the A3 is organized into a total of seven construction phases, with the work near Erlangen currently in the third phase. Unfortunately, the construction work on the A3 is still ongoing and not scheduled to be completed by the end of the year as previously stated.
