Restoration of Kropotkinskaya Oil Pumping Station Finished by CPC

Story:

ASTANA - The Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) is revving up once more, as it wraps up full restoration and installation works at the Kropotkinskaya oil pumping station. The station is poised for a grand relaunch, having weathered a scheduled shutdown on May 20, according to Kazinform.

CPC's big boss, Nikolay Gorban, confirmed that all construction and installation activities at the Kropotkinskaya station have been wrapped up. The crux of the operation includes transformers, the gas turbine unit, and the ever-reliable generator - all have been fully restored and adequately tested.

Sadly, the Kropotkinskaya, the titan of the CPC system, took a hit from seven unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on Feb. 17. Thankfully, no casualties were reported. However, the oil transport infrastructure suffered substantial impact.

The CPC pipeline system plays a pivotal role in the energy sector of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Stretching an impressive 1,511 kilometers, this pipeline network is the primary artery transporting over two-thirds of all Kazakhstani oil exports and crude oil from Russian fields, including those in the Caspian Region.

Details:

The damage inflicted on the Kropotkinskaya oil pumping station in Astana was the result of drone strikes carried out by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on March 17 and March 24, 2025. These attacks led to damage and subsequent decommissioning of the facility, causing a significant reduction in oil pumping capacity. The CPC commenced repair work immediately, and their specialists projected that the repair timeline would span around 1.5 to 2 months. Despite these efforts, the threat of further attacks persists, posing challenges to Kazakhstani oil production commitments and reservoir management.

In response, diplomatic channels remain active between the Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ukrainian side, addressing these incidents. However, specific details from the Energy Ministry are scarce.

  1. The Kropotkinskaya oil pumping station, a crucial component of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) system, was damaged by drone strikes carried out by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on March 17 and March 24, 2025, impacting the oil-and-gas industry and the energy sector of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
  2. The unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) attacks led to the decommissioning of the Kropotkinskaya station, causing a significant reduction in oil pumping capacity.
  3. The CPC, however, has been working diligently to restore the station, as it recently completed full restoration and installation works at the Kropotkinskaya station, including the transformers, gas turbine unit, and generator.
  4. The revamped Kropotkinskaya station, located in Kropotkinskaya, is ready to resume its role as a vital part of the CPC pipeline system, which transports over two-thirds of Kazakhstani oil exports and crude oil from Russian fields, including those in the Caspian Region.
