Restructuring Power Decisions: New Media Group and Holding Company South Make Key Adjustments
The regional media landscape in Baden-Württemberg and Brandenburg is undergoing a significant change, as the 'Südwest Presse' and the 'Schwarzwälder Bote' have now come under the umbrella of the New Pressegesellschaft (NPG).
The new media house, which was formed on April 1st, has a strong leadership team, with Tim Hager as the CEO. Hager, who previously led SWP Neckar-Alb, will also serve as the Chairman of the new media house. Thomas Radek, on the other hand, will be the Chairman of the new media house in Brandenburg.
The management board of the new media house comprises eight members. Alongside Hager, Carsten Huber, Carsten Groß, Thomas Radek, and Marc Nickol are the heads of the regional media houses and are part of the management board. Huber, who previously led the 'Schwarzwälder Bote', is one of the Managing Directors of the new media house, while Nickol is the Publishing Director for the new media house in Brandenburg.
Christian Friske is responsible for Logistics and Production, Daniel Torka is responsible for Digital, Markets, and Transformation, and Kathrin Heckner is responsible for Human Resources.
Herbert Dachs will be working alongside Andreas Simmet, Matthias Bikowski, and Tilo Schelsky in his new role at NPG. Schelsky is moving to Stuttgart to take over the chairmanship of MHS Management and will also help manage the Stuttgart Newspaper Group. Bikowski and Simmet's roles within the new media house were not specified.
Dachs is joining the management of Neue Pressegesellschaft in Ulm, while Carsten Groß is already part of the management of the Stuttgart Newspaper Group.
The new media house includes the 'Stuttgarter Zeitung', the 'Stuttgarter Nachrichten' and their local editions, the 'Esslinger Zeitung', the 'Schwarzwälder Bote', and the 'Kreiszeitung Böblinger Bote'. The sale of a majority (82 percent) stake in Medienholding Süd to NPG has been approved by the Federal Cartel Office.
The formation of this new media house marks a significant step in the consolidation of regional news in Germany. As the new leadership team takes charge, they will face the challenges of adapting to the rapidly changing news landscape and maintaining the quality and relevance of their newspapers in the digital age.
