Royal Academy Launches £150m Green Future Fellowships to Combat Climate Crisis
The Royal Academy of Engineering has launched the Green Future Fellowships, a £150m initiative aiming to support 50 fellows over the next five years. Each fellow will receive up to £3m to develop and scale their ideas for up to a decade. Meanwhile, the third annual CiTTi Awards will celebrate sustainable city planning innovations on 26 November 2024 in London.
Dr Hayaatun Sillem CBE, CEO of the Royal Academy of Engineering, stressed the urgency for scalable and commercially viable climate innovations. A recent Opinium survey backs this, with seven in 10 respondents believing engineers are crucial for developing climate change solutions and reducing emissions. Almost two thirds of respondents agreed that the UK needs more engineers to tackle the climate crisis. Additionally, nearly two thirds of respondents felt more should be done to scale existing solutions to combat the climate crisis.
The Green Future Fellowships and CiTTi Awards highlight the commitment to fostering innovative, sustainable solutions. With public support for engineering's role in climate action, these initiatives aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help society adapt to climate change.
