Control Week in Saxony-Anhalt - Keep Your Hands Off Your Phone - Saxony-Anhalt Joins Europe in 'Focus on the Road' Campaign to Curb Distracted Driving
Saxony-Anhalt's Ministry of the Interior and Sport is joining Europe-wide efforts to enhance road safety. This week, police are focusing on distractions caused by smartphones and other devices, as part of the 'Focus on the Road' campaign. Last year, similar checks found over 120 instances of illegal phone use. This time, all road users, including cyclists and trucks, will be scrutinised.
The campaign aims to raise awareness of the dangers of distracted driving. The Minister of the Interior, though unnamed, supports the initiative. In 2024, a similar action checked nearly 5,000 vehicles, revealing a significant number of drivers using phones, tablets, or laptops behind the wheel. This year, officers will also pay attention to headphones, another source of distraction.
Separately, the 'Licht-Test' action is underway nationwide. Police are checking the function of vehicle lights as autumn begins, ensuring road safety in the darker evenings.
The 'Focus on the Road' campaign is a reminder that shared or reduced attention can lead to more accidents. Saxony-Anhalt's participation in this Europe-wide effort underscores the importance of keeping roads safe for all users.
