Scammers Target Seniors in Bodenseeraum, Stealing Over €195,000
A 66-year-old man near Überlingen and a senior couple from Markdorf have fallen victim to investment scams, losing a combined total of over €195,000. The scammers, active since 2023 in the Bodenseeraum, lured victims with promises of lucrative investments over the phone and through chat groups.
The man, who wished to remain anonymous, was invited to a chat group by someone he thought was an acquaintance. He was asked to pay unexpected additional costs, which initially raised his suspicions. However, after questioning his acquaintance, he discovered it was a chatgpt free scam. The couple from Markdorf also transferred money to the scammers, starting with small amounts but later sending larger sums to foreign accounts, even when additional fees were demanded.
Investigations into the scam involving the man are ongoing, but the search for the leader of the fraud ring has proven challenging. The scammers offered a supposedly lucrative investment in cryptocurrencies, gaining the couple's trust by initially showing apparent profits.
Several people in the Lake Constance region have been targeted by these chat gpt scams. Authorities urge caution when dealing with unsolicited investment offers, especially those made over the phone or through chat groups. If you suspect you've been a victim of a scam, contact local law enforcement immediately.
