SGA Launches Sustainable Games Standard to Cut CO2 Footprint

The Sustainable Games Alliance (SGA) has launched the Sustainable Games Standard, a new tool aimed at making gaming the most sustainable form of entertainment. With over 30 members from 11 countries, including industry associations, studios, and service providers, the SGA is committed to reducing the CO2 footprint of the games industry.

The Sustainable Games Standard is tailored to the value chain of the games industry, focusing on industry-specific emissions. It is not just another generic ESG reporting tool, but integrates ecological, social, and governance (ESG) criteria specifically for the games industry. Notable members of the SGA include Instinct3, Second Stage, SpielFabrique, Remedy, and Super Evil Megacorp.

The introduction of this standard will be accompanied by workshops, case studies, and presentations in the coming months. It is freely available to all companies, benefiting solo indie developers as much as AAA corporations. The SGA aims to make gaming the most sustainable form of entertainment with maximum energy efficiency and minimal CO2 footprint.

The Sustainable Games Standard is a significant step towards a more sustainable future for the games industry. With the support of over 30 companies and the commitment of the SGA, gaming can lead the way in entertainment sustainability. More information about the standard can be found on the official SGA website.
