Simon Property Group Unveils SPO: An Online Outlet Mall Platform

Simon Property Group, the largest shopping mall operator in the US, has unveiled an online shopping platform, SPO, for its premium outlet malls. The platform is currently in beta-testing and is set to launch to the public later this spring.

Simon Property Group has been exploring the integration of online and offline retail. Previously, it collaborated with e-commerce companies to bring their products to physical spaces through 'The Edit' at its Roosevelt Field mall in Long Island. Now, with SPO, the company aims to provide a seamless shopping experience for customers, allowing them to browse and purchase from their favourite outlet stores online.

The beta-testing of SPO is underway with Simon's VIP Shopper Club. Although specific details about participating brands and realtors are not yet available, the platform has sparked significant interest from various companies in the industry. Shlomo Chopp, a shopping center consultant, has praised Simon Property Group's move, describing it as a smart strategy that caters to the evolving retail landscape.

Simon Property Group considers SPO as its 'fifth platform', alongside traditional malls, regional mixed-use shopping centers, outlets, and international mall operations. With the beta-testing underway and positive industry interest, the launch of SPO later this spring is expected to further enhance Simon's retail offerings and provide a new shopping experience for customers.
