Skyrocketing inflation recorded in Yakutia during August, reaching 8.75%
In the region of Yakutia, a series of changes have been observed in various sectors over the past year. Here's a breakdown of the key developments:
Telecommunication Services
Some communication operators are anticipated to recover lost profits due to protectionist laws aimed at reducing the presence of foreign messengers. In a positive turn of events, telecommunication services, including mobile services, have experienced a decrease of 7.18% over the past 12 months.
Medical Services
Medical services have seen a 9.37% price increase over the past year, albeit slightly lower than the segment as a whole. Factors contributing to this rise include rising rental fees, increased costs of consumables, tools, and equipment maintenance.
Food Prices
Food prices have shown a mixed picture. While coffee prices have risen by 17.26% due to unfavorable growing conditions in major producing countries, the prices of essentials like potatoes and tomatoes have decreased in August 2025. This decrease is partly due to increased offerings from large producers and imports from other regions. Cucumbers, in particular, have seen a significant drop in price.
Electronics and Appliances
Due to the country's monetary policy and the weakened ruble since July, smartphone prices have increased by 21.10% over 12 months. On the other hand, TV prices have decreased over the year, partly due to a gradual decrease in demand for electronics and appliances and an increase in inventory and active sales through promotions and discounts, with a 7.88% increase over the year.
Agricultural Sector
In recent months, local agricultural cooperatives and regional distributors in Yakutia have played a significant role in supplying fresh tomatoes and cucumbers at lower prices.
Fuel Prices
Fuel prices have increased by 12.36% over the past 12 months at both retail and wholesale levels.
Transport Services
Passenger transport services have become cheaper, with a 18.10% decrease over the past 12 months, primarily due to seasonal reductions in inter-city air and rail transport prices.
Inflation Rates
In August 2025, inflation processes slowed down by 0.21% compared to July. By the end of autumn 2025, the Bank of Russia in Yakutia reported an annual inflation rate of 8.75%, higher than the national average of 8.14%.
Price Trends in Services vs Goods
Over 12 months in Yakutia, goods have increased in price more significantly than services. However, in August 2025, services became significantly cheaper.
Slowing Down of Inflation
In a positive development, services became significantly cheaper in August 2025, contributing to the slowing down of inflation processes. This trend is expected to continue as the region navigates its economic landscape.
