In a significant move towards strengthening its cybersecurity offerings, SonicWall has announced the establishment of a new Managed Security Services Division (MSSD). This division is poised to empower Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs) to deliver scalable, real-time security as a service.

Michael Crean, a channel and industry veteran, has been appointed as the general manager of the new division. Crean, who previously founded MSSP Solutions and joined SonicWall upon its acquisition of his company in 2023, stated that the division marks a significant shift for the company.

The services offered by SonicWall's MSSD are built on a global Security Operations Center (SOC) infrastructure, providing around-the-clock monitoring, investigation, and real-time threat response. The division will focus on developing and scaling co-managed and fully-managed security offerings, including managed detection and response for endpoints, cloud, and network.

The offering includes managed extended detection and response (MXDR) for visibility and response across various systems. Partners can leverage the managed protection security suite (MPSS) for firewalls, which includes firmware updates, policy tuning, monitoring, and co-branded reporting. This suite is backed by SonicWall's $200,000 cyber warranty for each managed device.

According to Crean, managed security services are a core layer of every security solution SonicWall sells. The new division is designed to help MSPs and MSSPs provide effective, layered defense to their customers. In today's threat environment, having a Security Operations Center (SOC) is considered a necessity.

The services provided by the MSSD will offer expert SOC coverage for tools such as SentinelOne, Fortinet, and Windows Defender. Crean's leadership of the new division is expected to empower MSPs and MSSPs to deliver the robust, responsive, and partner-led services they need to succeed.

With this shift, SonicWall's future emphasizes managed security services, aiming to transition into a full-service cybersecurity partner for MSPs and MSSPs. The new division underscores SonicWall's commitment to providing comprehensive, reliable, and effective cybersecurity solutions for its partners and customers.
