Temporary Shutdown of Emirates Road and Pivotal Streets Commencing August 16 in UAE Traffic Update
Road Closures Affect Traffic in Abu Dhabi and Dubai
In the coming days, motorists in Abu Dhabi and Dubai should be aware of several partial road closures that may cause traffic congestion and delays.
Starting this Friday, August 15, a section of Sweihan Road (E20) in Abu Dhabi will be closed until Sunday, August 17. Similarly, from August 16 to 18, there will be a closure on Emirates Road (E611) heading towards Dubai.
The exact reasons for these closures are not provided, but they are likely related to ongoing development works aimed at improving infrastructure in the area.
Current Traffic Situation
During the specified period, expect slower traffic flow on the affected stretches of E611. Peak hours may see backups due to reduced lanes, and increased congestion on connecting roads as drivers seek alternatives.
Recommended Alternative Routes
Motorists are advised to consider the following alternative routes:
- Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311): This parallel highway can be used as an alternative for traveling towards Dubai, often with multiple lanes and smoother traffic.
- Dubai-Al Ain Road (E66): Depending on your starting point, this route could provide a less congested path towards the city.
- Local roads: Use smaller feeder and exit roads to navigate around the closure, but be mindful of potential local traffic.
Tips for Navigating the Closures
To avoid delays, consider planning your trips outside peak hours if possible. Utilise navigation apps that offer live traffic updates to find the quickest alternative routes. Allow extra travel time during these dates to account for potential congestion.
Additional Closures
On July 25, a temporary road closure was announced on Al Jamea Road and Al Muzawwad Road at the Al Badia intersection towards Dubai (Emirates Road). The right lane towards Abu Dhabi will be closed from Friday, 11pm, to Saturday 1pm. The two left lanes towards Abu Dhabi will be closed from Saturday, August 16 to Sunday August 17.
Additionally, an intersection at Zayed Bin Sultan St. and Hessa Bint Mohammed St. in Al Ain will be temporarily closed from the same dates and times.
It's important to note that there are other road closures announced in other articles, including the construction of Etihad Rail and temporary closures of key streets from July 26.

The entertainment industry might face disruptions due to the road closures in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, as several segments of E611 and other major roads will be affected by the closures.
During the same period, news outlets could report on the impact of these transportation disruptions on the automotive industry, especially the public-transit services, as drivers might seek alternative modes of transport.
Moreover, the finance sector may experience indirect consequences, as closed roads in the region could impact commercial activities and encourage less spending in both cities.
