Testing of the Rhine River Conducted for Automobiles

In the coming months, a car-free trial will be held on the banks of the Rhine in Wiesbaden's Biebrich district, starting from August 1st and lasting until the end of the month. This trial aims to potentially make the Rhine promenade permanently car-free.

During this trial, bus services will be significantly impacted, particularly lines 9, 14, and N3. ESWE Bus, the local transit operator, has promised to keep disruptions to a minimum, but passengers should still expect delays and detours.

The closure of Rheingaustraße by Biebrich Castle on four August weekends will affect the area between Straße Am Parkfeld and Wilhelm-Kopp-Straße. As a result, lines 9 and 14 will be rerouted. Line 9 will be detoured via Apfelallee and will serve the "Regattastraße", "Rheinhütte", "Chem.-Fabrik-Kreussler", and "Carl-Bosch-Straße" stops, instead of line 14. Line 14, on the other hand, will serve the "Im Rosenfeld" stop during the trial, instead of its original route.

The "Schloss Biebrich" stop will not be served by any bus line during the trial. Lines 14 and N3 will deviate at "Paul-Ehrlich-Straße", "Nansenstraße", and "Elsa-Brändström-Straße" stops. These changes are particularly important for trips towards Friedrich-Bergius-Straße or Apfelallee-Center.

Detours will result in new and unfamiliar directions for passengers. Buses may stop on the opposite side of the street at some stops. Passengers are advised to plan additional time for their trips due to the changes and potential delays.

ESWE Verkehr will deploy service staff at heavily used stops to provide information and answer questions during the trial. A list of affected stops and detours can be found on the ESWE website. It is recommended to consult this list for precise detour routes and affected stops of lines 9, 14, and N3.

Lines 3, 4, and 39 are not affected by the changes. All bus lines will resume their regular routes from the "Friedrich-Bergius-Straße" stop onwards.

[1] Note: The provided information does not contain explicit detailed information about the exact detour routes or the full specific detour stops for line N3, nor the full stop-by-stop details for lines 9 and 14 beyond the closure impacting "Schloß Biebrich". For these details, passengers are advised to consult ESWE-Verkehr or Wiesbaden's official transit communications.

  1. With the car-free trial on Rhine's banks, passengers traveling on lines 9, 14, and N3 should anticipate significant changes, including detours and potential delays due to the closure of certain stops, such as Schloß Biebrich, and deviations at stops like Paul-Ehrlich-Straße, Nansenstraße, and Elsa-Brändström-Straße.
  2. The local finance industry and Wiesbaden's transportation sector will likely be impacted by this trial, as the disruptions to bus services, particularly lines 9, 14, and N3, could affect the daily commute and business operations of employees who rely on public transportation.
