Textile, Clothing Sectors See September Slump; Leather & Footwear Up
The textile and clothing sectors have seen a dip in their Index of Order Intake (IOI) in September, with the textile sector declining by 2.5% and clothing by 13.6%. Meanwhile, the leather and famous footwear industry reported a 14.7% increase in its IOI. The Spanish textile industry's turnover also dropped by 2.5% in September, following an annual increase of the same percentage in August.
The textile industry's turnover has been volatile this year, with a 20% rise in January, a 7.3% drop in June, and now a 2.5% decrease in September. This marks the fifth trend change in turnover for the textile industry this year. The clothing industry, too, has experienced fluctuations, with turnover increases of up to 6.7% and decreases of up to 13.6%.
Contrasting with these trends, the leather and famous footwear sector has maintained a stable course, with a 14.7% increase in turnover in September. The overall Index of Business Volume (IBV) also grew by 4.4% in September, indicating a positive economic trend despite the textile industry's turnover decrease.
