The cities of Berlin and Brandenburg are set to embark on an exciting new chapter with the announcement of the "Neocity" project. This ambitious urban development initiative aims to continue Berlin's legacy as a city of constant evolution and reinvention, while fostering a new, innovative piece of the city in partnership with Brandenburg.
At the heart of the Neocity concept lies the integration of previously separate usage types, creating new hybrids through neomanufacturing and knowledge production. This fusion is expected to serve as a platform for the development of novel value creation forms, including logistics, back offices, and the MICE sector.
The Neocity will also function as a testing ground for innovative ideas, with existing platforms strengthened and supplemented by prototyping infrastructures. Each neighbourhood within the Neocity will have a clear action plan, ensuring self-containment, manageability, and a unique identity, while maintaining a mixed-use approach.
Crucially, the Neocity is not intended to be traditional residential quarters. Instead, it will encompass logistics locations, research and development spaces, and landscape-related areas. The project aims to operate independently of federal state borders, promoting a cooperative, community-based approach between Berlin and Brandenburg.
The region surrounding the Berlin Brandenburg Airport, particularly Schönefeld and the surrounding Brandenburg municipalities, has been earmarked as the location for the Neocity. This area, often referred to as a boom region, is currently undergoing development under the Neocity concept.
The Neocity project places a strong emphasis on applied science and development, with a focus on the transfer of knowledge. It invites ideas to be picked up, interpreted, and carried forward, serving as a comprehensive guiding concept for all those involved. With its decentralized development strategy, the Neocity seeks to create new urban and urban landscape ecosystems, further cementing Berlin and Brandenburg's reputation as global hubs of innovation and progress.
