In a significant announcement, authorities have unveiled that Almaty city is poised for a construction boom next year, according to the city's general comprehensive plan up to 2030. The year 2026 will see the highest number of residential, educational, healthcare, commercial, administrative, and fire station facilities built.
The "Almaty" district will witness the construction of 22 state-owned housing objects. Among these are two dormitories for medical workers and one for general use, two state-owned rental housing objects, and five state-owned credit housing objects. The "Yesil" district will see the construction of 5 dormitories, while the "Nura" administrative district will have 9 state-owned housing objects, which include one dormitory for education and healthcare workers, 7 state-owned credit housing objects. Similarly, the "Saryarka" district will see the construction of 3 dormitories, and the "Baykonur" district will have 4.
In total, 404 objects will be built in 2026. These include 224 residential fund objects, 52 educational objects, 52 commercial objects, 21 healthcare institutions, 16 administrative objects, 9 sports facilities, 8 landscaping objects, 9 recreational objects, 6 emergency service objects, 3 communal-industrial objects, and one automobile service object.
The following years, 2027 and 2028, will also see significant construction activities. In 2027, it is planned to build 65 residential fund objects, 30 educational objects, 10 administrative, 11 healthcare institutions, 15 commercial objects, 6 recreational, and two emergency service objects. By 2028, 135 objects will be built, including 47 residential complexes, 52 educational institutions, 16 recreational objects, 5 healthcare institutions, 9 administrative and 4 commercial objects, a building for automobile service, and one communal-industrial complex.
While no specific construction plan for Almaty city from 2026 to 2028 was available, recent developments in Kazakhstan and neighboring regions indicate regional economic growth. For instance, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan have signed agreements for new transport projects and are developing a 2026–2028 economic roadmap. Moreover, Kazakhstan is witnessing significant investments in education, healthcare, and social infrastructure, including the opening of new educational facilities and health centers across the country.
Investors in the Almaty housing-market and real-estate sector should anticipate a surge in construction activities in 2026, as the city plans to build 404 objects, many of which are residential and credit housing objects. The economic growth in Kazakhstan, as indicated by regional agreements and increased investments in education, healthcare, and social infrastructure, may further encourage investing in these sectors.
