In the early hours of September 20, 2025, the Sip & Savor coffee shop located on 47th Street in Chicago was robbed by unidentified individuals. The thieves made off with high-end bourbons, vodka, tequila, cakes, and muffins, totaling nearly $2,000 worth of items.
Trez Pugh III, the owner of Sip & Savor, expressed his upset and frustration after the break-in. Despite the loss, Pugh III remains determined not to let the incident discourage him. He stated that the incident hurt him deeply, as he works hard to provide a safe space for his customers.
The Chicago police are currently investigating the incident at Sip & Savor. Surveillance video shows someone with a cart entering the coffee shop and taking items from the cooler. The suspect(s) in the incident remain unidentified.
Pugh III mentioned that his business is cashless, so no money was stolen. However, the theft has left a significant impact on his business. Neighbours Marilyn Sims and Dennis Thompson expressed their anger, stating that the community values Pugh's efforts and is upset about the break-in.
Sip & Savor is more than just a coffee shop to the community. Pugh III supports various causes, including those for disabled veterans, recovering addicts, and the homeless. The coffee shop is a staple in the community, and Thompson believes the break-in should not be tolerated.
To support the business, Pugh encourages everyone to visit Sip & Savor for a cup of coffee. There is also an interactive safety tracker available to track crime and safety in the neighbourhood. The community's support will help Pugh III continue his mission of providing a safe space for customers while also supporting worthy causes.
