President Tinubu Announces Appointments to NCC and USPF Boards
In a significant move towards advancing Nigeria's digital economy, President Bola Tinubu has announced the constituted boards for the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF).
The USPF, established by the Federal Government to facilitate the achievement of national policy goals for universal access and service to information and communication technologies (ICTs) in rural, unserved, and underserved areas in Nigeria, now has a new board. Dr Bosun Tinubu chairs the USPF Board, with Dr Aminu Maida remaining the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NCC.
Notable members of the USPF Board include Joseph Faluyi, representing the Federal Ministry of Finance, Uzoma Dozie, Idris Olorunnimbe (who also serves as the Vice Chairman), Aliyu Edogi Aliyu from the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy (FMCIDE), Peter Bankole, Rimini Makama, Abraham Oshidami, and Abayomi Okanlawon.
Meanwhile, the NCC board has new faces as well. Idris Olorunnimbe, who previously served on the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) Board, has been appointed Chairman of the NCC. Col. Abdulwahab Lawal (Rtd), Sen. Lekan Mustafa, Chris Okorie, Oforitsenere Emiko, and Hajia Maryam Bayi have been appointed as members of the NCC board, with Emiko serving as the Secretary of the Board. Rimini Makama has also been appointed as the Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management at the NCC.
Hajia Maryam Bayi, previously serving as Director, Human Capital & Administration, has been appointed to the NCC board. Abraham Oshidami represents the USPF Board, and Gafar Quadri serves as the Secretary of the USPF Board.
President Tinubu's spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, announced the appointments in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja. Auwal Mohammed represents the Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning on the USPF Board, and Uzoma Dozie is another member of the USPF Board.
These appointments are expected to strengthen the NCC and USPF's roles in driving Nigeria's digital marketing forward and ensuring universal access to ICTs across the country.
