Trade Unions Demand 7% Wage Hike in Bremen and Bremerhaven Lunch Break Protests
Trade unions IG BAU and ver.di are staging active lunch breaks in Bremen and Bremerhaven on October 7 and 8, demanding higher wages. They seek a 7% wage increase and a €150 boost for apprentices, with negotiations set for October 9.
The unions, including the ver.di trade union, plan short public demonstrations during lunch breaks. In Bremen, employees will gather at Kennedyplatz on October 7 from 1 to 1:30 pm, while Bremerhaven employees will meet at the square in front of the Emigration House on October 8 from 12:30 to 1 pm.
The unions aim to put pressure on their demands ahead of the third round of negotiations with the employers' association. They deem the employers' offer of a 2.3% increase for 24 months starting January 2025 and a 2.1% increase starting February 2026 as too low, as it results in a loss of real wages for employees.
The trade unions are pushing for a 7% wage increase and a €150 rise in apprentice wages, with active lunch breaks in Bremen and Bremerhaven on October 7 and 8. They will meet with the employers' association on October 9 for the third round of negotiations, seeking a more substantial offer.
