Traffic on Brockweg and Kattenstrother Weg roundabout resumes freely for a safer commute.
The roundabout at Brockweg and Kattenstrother Weg in Osnabrück, Niedersachsen, will reopen to all road users on Friday, 29th August 2025. This traffic knot has been a frequent site of accidents before the construction works, which aimed to increase clarity and smooth traffic flow.
The construction works, completed on or before the scheduled date, were based on the recommendations of the accident commission. The purpose was to significantly improve traffic safety at the intersection.
During the construction, the roadway in the roundabout was narrowed to five meters. Now, vehicles must enter and exit the roundabout more slowly due to the narrowed roadway. Cyclists have safe spots at the entrances to switch from the sidewalk and bike path to the road. The sidewalk is designed as a raised curb with a green strip for additional safety.
Four barrier-free pedestrian crossings have been added to facilitate safe crossing of the streets. The city asks all road users to pay close attention to the new traffic guidance and encourages them to be considerate of each other in the roundabout.
The resumption of bus service will also take place on the same day. Line 206 will be able to pass through the roundabout as usual from Friday.
The reopening of the Brockweg/Kattenstrother Weg roundabout follows the completion of construction works at the intersection, marking a significant step towards improving traffic safety in the city.
