Train operations restored between Emmerich and Arnheim
The long-awaited resumption of full train service on the RE 19 line between Düsseldorf and Arnhem/Bocholt is set to take place on August 25, 2023, marking the end of a significant construction period that caused disruptions and bus replacements.
For several months, commuters have faced challenges due to the disruptions, with bus replacements and cancellations, particularly affecting connections to Bocholt and Arnhem. During this period, trains between Arnhem (Netherlands) and Emmerich (Germany) were replaced by buses, affecting through journeys.
Timetable adjustments show several canceled RE 19 departures before August 25 and replacement bus services in place during the construction works. However, after August 25, the RE 19 service will no longer require bus replacements, and train services will run normally on the full Düsseldorf–Arnhem/Bocholt route.
Temporary connection changes before August 25 included affected RE 19 trains terminating at Emmerich instead of Arnhem, replacement buses serving several segments between Voerde, Friedrichsfeld, and Oberhausen, and several scheduled RE 19 departures to Bocholt being canceled or replaced by bus services.
The transport authority VRR is coordinating with VIAS to introduce an adjusted timetable and partially changed departure times for the RE 19 line. The train numbers for these services will temporarily change.
Commuters should expect a return to standard RE 19 train operations from August 25 onward, with normal departures and destinations restored. Service disruptions and bus substitutions will end on that date, significantly improving travel between Düsseldorf and Arnhem/Bocholt.
It is essential to note that the rail construction works in Betuwe, Wesel, are not directly connected to the RE 19 line. The focus of the service adjustments has been on maintaining a stable service, including cross-border mobility to the Netherlands, and ensuring services during peak travel times, with a particular emphasis on commuter and school connections.
The updated timetable information is available in good time via digital information systems and on www.vias-online.de. For journeys to and from Arnhem, a change in Emmerich will be necessary. Travelers should remain aware of any ongoing construction elsewhere on German and Dutch rail networks, which might affect connections beyond this immediate route.
This news is indeed good for commuters, signaling a return to normalcy in their daily travels. The service adjustments prioritize maintaining maximum reliability for passengers, ensuring a smooth and efficient commute between Düsseldorf and Arnhem/Bocholt.
- The resumption of full train service on the RE 19 line, scheduled for August 25, 2023, signals the end of a significant construction period that affected not only train transportation but also public-transit connections, particularly those to Bocholt and Arnhem, thus impacting the overall industry and finance of the regions.
- After August 25, the RE 19 service will no longer require bus replacements, signifying a return to normal operations in the transportation industry, which will positively impact both local commuters and the overall public-transit system.
