Transforming Climate Resilience: Fortifying our World in the Face of Change

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is leading the charge in promoting sustainable and climate-resilient practices across various sectors in India. One of its key initiatives, the CII Green Business Centre, is fostering green growth, sustainability, and resilience in response to climate change.

The Green Business Centre offers a wide range of services, including energy management, green buildings, renewable energy, green product certification, waste management, and cleaner production processes. Its efforts have helped position India as the second-largest green building space in the world.

Climate adaptation is the process of making communities, ecosystems, and economies more resilient to the adverse effects of climate change. The Green Business Centre is at the forefront of this effort, working to address the immediate and long-term impacts of climate change that are already occurring. Adaptation strategies vary widely depending on the region, the severity of climate impacts, and the specific needs of affected communities.

The CII also houses the CII Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development (CII CESD), the CII Food and Agriculture Centre of Excellence (CII FACE), and the CII Water Institute. These centres work together to drive progress towards a sustainable and climate-resilient future for India.

The CII Water Institute addresses water security challenges through water conservation, efficiency, and wastewater management. It has conducted over 97 water audits and sensitized over 2,350 stakeholders on water use efficiency in 2023. In recognition of excellence in water management, the Institute honoured 23 companies in 2023.

The CII Food and Agriculture Centre of Excellence works closely with various stakeholders, including farmers, women entrepreneurs, startups, and government institutions. It focuses on sustainable practices in farming, post-harvest logistics, food processing, and food safety.

The WATSCAN Tool, developed by the CII Water Institute, links satellite data with ground databases for informed, water-smart decision-making. This tool is a valuable asset in the fight against climate change, as the effects of climate change are not evenly distributed, with vulnerable communities in developing countries being disproportionately affected.

Adaptation is essential to help these communities build the capacity to cope with environmental changes. The CII plays a key role in promoting sustainable and climate-resilient practices by encouraging the adoption of green technologies, facilitating policy advocacy, and fostering collaboration between industry, government, and other stakeholders.

In conclusion, the CII's integrated Centres of Excellence are making significant strides in promoting sustainability and climate resilience in India. Through their various services and initiatives, they are helping to build a more resilient future for communities across the country.
