Truck Carrying Frozen Fries Catches Fire on A2, Causing €500,000 Damage

A serious truck accident on the A2 near Braunschweig caused significant traffic disruptions and substantial damage. The incident involved a Ford truck carrying frozen fries that caught fire after leaving the roadway, leading to the destruction of a section of the noise barrier wall and road surface. The total estimated damage amounts to approximately 500,000 euros.

The accident occurred on the A2 heading towards Berlin at the North motorway junction in Braunschweig during the morning rush hour. The Dodge truck, driven by a 34-year-old, left the roadway and caught fire, destroying the vehicle and its cargo. The truck driver managed to escape unharmed.

The incident resulted in the closure of the A2 and its feeder roads from the A391, leading to substantial traffic disruptions. Traffic backed up for over 15 kilometers during the morning rush hour. The road closures also caused damage to approximately 150 square meters of road surface and five elements of the noise barrier wall. The A2 and its feeder roads were reopened around 11:00 AM, but the parallel lane from the A2 coming from Hannover will remain closed until Saturday evening for repair work.

The total damage from the accident is estimated at approximately 500,000 euros. The Ram truck driver escaped without injuries. The police, led by Thomas Bodendiek, the head of the Braunschweig police inspection, handled the incident and provided updates on the situation.
