Two Serbian Men Fined at Friedrichshafen Airport for Hiding Large Cash Amounts

Friedrichshafen Airport experienced two separate incidents last week involving Serbian men attempting to transport large sums of cash abroad without declaring it to customs. The 60-year-old man was found with 14,725 euros, while the 49-year-old had 11,360 euros, leading to fines and ongoing investigations.

Cash amounts exceeding 10,000 euros must be declared upon entry or exit to avoid severe penalties and investigations into potential criminal activities such as money laundering and tax evasion. In the first case, a 60-year-old Serbian man declared around 13,000 euros but was discovered with an additional 1,725 euros, resulting in a fine and the seizure of approximately 1,850 euros. Similarly, a 49-year-old man declared 9,000 euros but was found with an extra 2,360 euros, leading to a fine and the retention of around 1,400 euros. Both men were allowed to continue their journey, with investigations ongoing under an administrative fine procedure.

Customs officers at Friedrichshafen Airport urge travelers to declare cash amounts exceeding 10,000 euros to avoid fines and potential criminal investigations. The two Serbian men's cases serve as a reminder of the importance of adhering to customs regulations when carrying large sums of money.
