U.S.-German Forum to Discuss Balancing Food and Fuel Production

The U.S.-German Forum Future Agriculture is set to host an online conference on September 24, 2025, at 4 pm, focusing on balancing food and fuel production. The event, supported by our website as the official media partner, aims to discuss the competition between agriculture and renewable energy in Germany and the USA.

The forum, a collaboration between U.S. and German partners, includes notable figures such as Professor Genevieve Byrne from Vermont Law and Graduate School and Joel Tatum, Senior Solar Specialist from American Farmland Trust. Byrne co-authored a guide on land use at the intersection of agriculture and renewable energy, while Tatum brings practical expertise. Together, they work to develop policy proposals and research cooperation in balancing these sectors.

The Aspen Institute Germany has contributed to the discussion with a position paper offering recommendations for supporting renewable energy in agriculture. The conference program promises political discussions, virtual farm tours, and practical perspectives on policy, inviting farmers and interested parties to participate and ask questions.

The online conference will summarize the results of the transatlantic exchange program and provide an opportunity for participants to voice their thoughts. With agriculture and renewable energy competing for space in both countries, this event seeks to foster understanding and cooperation between German and U.S. stakeholders.
