UAE Affirms Steadfast Support for Worldwide Energy Revolution at BRICS Energy Summit
UAE Leads the Way in Global Energy Transition
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is making significant strides in the global energy transition, aligning its accomplishments with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7 and the BRICS vision for a sustainable, clean energy future.
At the Second Meeting of the BRICS Committee of Senior Energy Officials in Brasília, the UAE was acknowledged for its leadership in the energy transition. The country's Net Zero 2050 Strategy and recent Climate Change Law demonstrate its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and fostering a green economy.
The UAE's efforts are evident in its investments in renewable and clean energy projects. For instance, the country is developing a 5,000 MW solar park and actively pursuing hydrogen and carbon capture and storage projects, reducing over 800,000 tons of CO2 annually.
The UAE's Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has also highlighted its achievements in providing universal access to electricity. Moreover, the ministry is showcasing its advancements in providing clean cooking fuels.
The UAE's visionary policies and multi-billion-dollar investments are attracting major global investments projected towards a $12 trillion clean energy market by 2030. Notable initiatives include the $25 billion ADQ-ECP joint venture and the Abu Dhabi Hydrogen Alliance. The country is also partnering with the US in the $100 billion PACE collaboration, bridging traditional and renewable energy sectors to create resilient ecosystems.
The UAE continues to position itself as a strategic partner in the global energy landscape, reinforcing international cooperation to secure energy supplies and promoting energy transition goals aligned with international climate commitments. The meeting emphasized transitioning to a low-carbon future and the implementation of the "UAE Consensus" outcomes from COP28.
The UAE's future goals include scaling renewable energy capacity to triple current levels by 2030, mobilizing large-scale capital and institutional investment focused on sustainable technologies, enhancing cross-border energy investments, supporting regional and global commitments at forums like COP28, deploying advanced transmission and distribution infrastructure, and propelling sustainable development through visionary national and international partnerships, promotion of green hydrogen, and carbon neutrality.
Through these efforts, the UAE continues to position itself as a reliable partner in the global energy landscape, contributing to the BRICS Committee's focus on sustainable energy development, energy security, and technological innovation. The UAE's role in the global energy transition is a testament to its commitment to a sustainable, clean energy future.
