Unveiled: Maruti Suzuki's Grand Vitara sports a sleek Phantom Blaq Edition, showcasing fresh enhancements.
Maruti Suzuki, a leading automobile manufacturer in India, has entered the market of black edition SUVs with the launch of the Grand Vitara Phantom Blaq Edition. This special edition model boasts a unique matte paint finish and a distinctive all-black cosmetic package.
The Grand Vitara Phantom Blaq Edition is based on the existing Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and is available only with the strong hybrid powertrain. Every bit of chrome around the body has been replaced with black trims, except the beltline and Maruti Suzuki emblems. The special edition model comes with blacked-out 17-inch alloy wheels, adding to its sporty and premium look.
The powertrain consists of a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, a 0.76 kWh lithium-ion battery, and a front-mounted electric motor. This powertrain churns out a combined output of 114 bhp peak power, promising a fuel efficiency of 27.97 kmpl, similar to the standard Grand Vitara.
Several other carmakers, including Tata Motors, Mahindra, MG, Honda, and Hyundai, have also jumped on the bandwagon of black edition SUVs. Tata Motors offers black edition variants of the Harrier and Safari, while Mahindra has launched three black edition SUVs in the Rs 15-30 lakh range. Honda offers the Elevate Black and Signature Black Editions, featuring a Crystal Black Pearl exterior, black alloy wheels, and a blacked-out cabin.
Tata Motors seems to lead the segment in terms of variety and model options for black edition SUVs as of mid-2025. However, detailed information about MG's black edition SUVs was not found in the search results.
The launch and pricing details of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Phantom Blaq Edition are yet to be announced. The interior of the special edition model remains unchanged, with no changes to the cabin's design or features. This launch is Maruti Suzuki's attempt to capitalize on the trend of black SUVs, which have become popular for their distinctive all-black exterior styling, dark interior themes, black alloy wheels, and exclusive badging.
