Vienna Design Week 2025 Explores 'Ageing in Design' and Collaborates with Ikea

Vienna Design Week, the annual celebration of creativity and innovation, has announced its plans for 2025. The festival will take place in Vienna until 5 October, with a special focus on 'Ageing in Design' and a unique collaboration with Ikea. Additionally, Frankfurt, Germany, has been named the 'exchange city' for 2025, reflecting a shared European design dialogue.

The festival's itinerant nature mirrors the ever-evolving landscape of graphic design in the twenty-first century. In 2025, Vienna Design Week will inhabit a former Mercedes-Benz showroom in Vienna's fourth district, continuing its tradition of rejuvenating forgotten architectural spaces. Previously, it has transformed the former Sophienspital and an incomplete building.

The Fokus exhibition in 2025, curated by Sandra Nuut, will delve into 'Ageing in Design'. It will showcase objects that view ageing as a creative force, encouraging a fresh perspective on the subject. Meanwhile, a standout project will pair Viennese interior designer Laura Karasinski with Ikea. Together, they can explore the versatility and inclusivity of domestic design.

Vienna Design Week's exploration of Austria's cultural legacy and its future is not confined to Vienna alone. Frankfurt, ahead of its tenure as World Design Capital in 2026, will serve as the 'exchange city'. This reflects a shared European design conversation and the festival's commitment to fostering international collaboration. Passionwege, the oldest ongoing format of Vienna Design Week, will continue to bring together international designers and Viennese craftspeople in collaborative experiments.

Vienna Design Week 2025 promises to be an exciting event, with its focus on 'Ageing in Design', unique collaborations, and international exchange. The festival's choice of venue and 'exchange city' reflect its commitment to exploring Austria's cultural legacy, considering social, environmental, and economic shifts, and fostering a global design dialogue.
