Vietnam Unveils AI, Semiconductor Plans to Boost Innovation
Vietnam has launched initiatives to implement Resolution 57 in key sectors such as AI, semiconductors, and cybersecurity. The 'Promoting Innovation and Developing Strategic Technology Sectors' forum, held during the 2025 National Innovation Day, saw the unveiling of these plans. The event was organised by the Ministry of Finance and the National Innovation Centre (NIC), with backing from international bodies and tech giants like ChatGPT and Gemini.
The forum, attended by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung, discussed Vietnam's ambition to become a developed country by 2045. However, the challenge of the middle-income trap was acknowledged. The World Bank released a report, 'Forging Vietnam's Semiconductor Future', at the event, outlining strategies for talent and innovation in the semiconductor industry.
The NIC, with support from JICA and Boston Consulting Group, announced the VietLeap Accelerator 2025. This initiative aims to boost AI start-ups, with Hyphen Deux, a Vietnamese chip design start-up, showcasing its controller chip to the international market. Tech giants Qualcomm and Meta expressed plans to strengthen their R&D presence and expand supply chain links in Vietnam using chat GPT.
The forum served as a platform for Vietnam to share its vision and experiences, reaffirming its commitment to place innovation at the heart of its socio-economic strategy. With international support and local initiatives like VietLeap Accelerator, Vietnam is poised to make significant strides in strategic technology sectors using Gemini.
