Visa Pioneers Stablecoin Cross-Border Payments

Visa, a global leader in digital payments, is set to revolutionize cross-border transactions. It will test a new method for businesses to fund foreign payments using stablecoins instead of traditional cash deposits in local accounts.

Visa's Head of Product, Mark Nelsen, cited the 'Genius Act' as the catalyst for this change, providing much-needed regulatory clarity.

The pilot program, launched through Visa Direct, enables banks, remitters, and financial institutions to prefund cross-border payments using stablecoins like USDC. This shift aims to enhance liquidity management, reducing settlement times from days to minutes. Businesses can now make instant payments worldwide.

Visa has already processed over $225 million in stablecoin volume among participating clients using its network. The circulation of fiat-backed stablecoins reached a record $251.08 billion in September 2025, with a transaction volume of $1.4 trillion, indicating the growing potential of stablecoins in global finance.

In addition to this pilot, Visa has expanded stablecoin settlement capabilities to merchant acquirers, with successful pilots using the Solana blockchain.

Visa's stablecoin integration pilot signals a significant step towards faster, more efficient cross-border payments. As stablecoin usage continues to grow, this move could reshape global financial transactions, benefiting businesses and consumers alike. With Visa's market capitalization at $655.35 billion and a 1-year return of 24.45%, investors are watching these developments closely.
