Voluntary separation proposal extended by VW, exclusively to its workforce contemplating departure from the company
Newspaper Byte: Volkswagen's Shift Gear
The automotive industry is entering a new era, and Volkswagen is smack-dab in the middle of it all, aiming to steer toward a fresh future. At the heart of the change? A significant reduction in headcount.
By 2030, a staggering 35,000 jobs could be axed, with over half of them destined for the main plant in Wolfsburg. Of these, around 20,000 have already been agreed upon (according to previous reports). Yet, the goal has not been reached as of now. Volkswagen is now attempting to persuade employees to join a new initiative to hasten the job cuts process.
Volkswagen's Grand Bet
Employees who leave the company in the short term typically opt for early retirement incentives or severance packages or simply retire. With the 20,000 jobs already agreed upon, Volkswagen has secured more than half of its planned 35,000 job cuts by 2030. But the company isn't stopping there; it wants more employees to leave—all while remaining socially responsible. That's why Volkswagen has just launched the "Perspective Workshop."
Volkswagen: Thousands of Workers Decide to Part Ways — Willingly!
This new department caters to employees whose roles have been eliminated or who have agreed to the changes. Its purpose? To provide employees with a chance to explore new career avenues without immediately facing financial hardships. "A transfer to the transfer cost center will be made while maintaining the current contract scope (full-time, part-time), the current salary grade/salary group, and for the purpose of professional reorientation and, if necessary, qualification," Volkswagen confirms to the "Braunschweigische Zeitung."
Post-Volkswagen Life?
Program participants receive individual career counseling and have the opportunity to further their education or retrain for a new line of work — either within Volkswagen or outside the company, including in the Wolfsburg/Braunschweig region. They'll be supported by job coaches who help create a personal development plan.
For those affected by the changes, the "Perspective Workshop" might offer a chance at a new beginning. Despite the challenges, for many long-time employees, the transition can be difficult.
