Anarbek Zhauyrov, Kazakhstani businessman and founder of the Olympus online sportsbook, is selling one of his New York City properties, a three-bedroom condo in the upscale Tribeca neighborhood for $8 million. This listing comes eight years after he purchased the property for $8.1 million.
Zhauyrov's gaming empire, which holds a Curacao gaming license, has been a subject of controversy due to its operations in Russia and alleged status as a gray or black market operator in several Western European countries. The company's services are not available for North American bettors.
Recently, Zhauyrov has listed numerous high-value properties in the US, raising questions about his reasons for selling. Last December, gambling magnate Steve Wynn lowered the price of his 10,875-square-foot penthouse at 50 Central Park South by $20 million, indicating a willingness to break even on that property.
Reports suggest that Zhauyrov owns several properties in the US, including residential and commercial real estate. In New York City alone, he is known to own a minimum of five apartments and a mansion in the suburbs, with a combined estimated value of $16.4 million in 2021.
His other US properties include a multi-million-dollar apartment in Boston, an apartment and office building in Miami, and an expensive apartment in Bal Harbor, Florida. In Florida, Zhauyrov has held residential properties valued at an estimated $14.3 million four years ago, and their current value is likely significantly higher.
The Organization for Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) reports that Zhauyrov derives part of his income from renting out his properties in the US. His wife and brother are listed as the official owners of the companies controlling Olympus and the affiliated sportsbooks, with some legal experts viewing this arrangement as a means to avoid legal scrutiny.
In 2022, accounts with ties to Olympus holding $212 million were seized by Russia's Internal Ministry of Affairs, with a promise to cooperate with Kazakh authorities in accessing the funds and pursuing potential criminals. Recently, the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan initiated a pre-trial investigation into the alleged illegal gambling business by the administration of Olimp bookmaker.
Zhauyrov does not shy away from showcasing his opulent lifestyle on social media, where he is followed by various Russian celebrities. His posts detail his travel experiences, luxury automobile collection, and lavish possessions. One of his photos features him at the Bellagio on the Las Vegas Strip, while another shows him in Bal Harbor with renowned French footballer Thierry Henry. Other posts highlight his trips to Bora Bora and Brazil or showcase his Rolls Royce Phantom collection, with the most recent version costing upwards of $613,000.
